Donor Spotlight: Why we chose monthly giving

Tom Boutureira & Chloe Dowley

At Freeport Conservation Trust, we know that our work is only possible because of the generosity of our supporters. To celebrate the people who help make our mission a reality, we are excited to launch a new Donor Spotlight series

Tom first became involved with FCT in 2018 through a land conservation project. A lifelong conservation advocate, he has dedicated his career to serving organizations such as the Sierra Club and the Peace Corps, currently serving as Executive Director of the Charles F. and Beatrice D. Adams Charitable Trust. Through their recurring monthly gifts, Tom and Chloe’s gifts add up to dependable, long-term support which helps FCT protect land and maintain public trails all year round.

"Our family spends a lot of time on Freeport Conservation Trust properties. We walk our dogs on the trails, enjoy the woods in every season, and appreciate knowing these special places will be protected for future generations.

Like many families, we support several organizations doing important work in our community and beyond. When the end of the year rolls around and charitable appeals begin piling up on our kitchen table, it can be difficult to decide how much to give to each one.

A few years ago, Chloe and I decided to support FCT through monthly giving. It was easier to build a smaller monthly contribution into our household budget than to make one larger year-end donation. What surprised us was that those monthly gifts added up to more than we likely would have given otherwise. We found a way to make a more meaningful contribution while making it easier to fit into our family's budget.

Serving as FCT's Treasurer has given me another perspective. I've seen how monthly gifts provide dependable, year-round support that helps FCT plan with confidence and care for the lands and trails we all enjoy.

Today, 22 members contribute about $511 each month through recurring giving, providing more than $6,100 in annual support. Every monthly gift makes a difference, no matter the amount. Imagine what we could accomplish if 80 households gave an average of $25 per month. Together, those gifts would generate $24,000 annually, creating a reliable source of support for the lands, trails, and educational programs that make Freeport Conservation Trust such an important part of our community.

If monthly giving has taught us anything, it's that you don't have to make one big gift to make a meaningful difference. Small gifts, given consistently, really do add up. We hope you'll consider becoming a monthly donor, too."
