Frost Gully Brook Dam Removal Project

Upcoming Don’t Miss Events

  • Volunteer with MMTU to help study macroinvertebrates at Frost Gully Brook

We are looking for volunteers to help us in the collection of aquatic insects. You don’t need to be a biologist to help, training and the reporting of your results will be through the Maine Audubon’s Maine Stream Explorers program. Volunteers will need to complete a couple hours of training online. Once trained we will have 4 sites on FGB that we are going to be sampling over the next year at varying times of the year. Stream sampling will be done in pairs with a kick net, working the stream per the training to collect aquatic insects. The samples will then be sorted and recorded into the Maine Audubon data base. Please note that this work will require you to be comfortable wading in the brook, depending on the time of year waders or tall rubber boots may be needed. Should you have any question please feel free to reach out to Nate Hicks with Merry Meeting Bay Trout Unlimited: fishbonemetalworks@gmail.com

  • Signs of Spring Slow Walk @ Hedgehog Mountain Trails: 4/28 @ 2pm.

Please join us for a meander through Freeport's special Hedgehog conservation land trails to observe, wonder, share, and perhaps learn a few things-- in community! We'll let the forest inspire our inquiries—we will keep a look out for the first wave of woodland flowers to bloom in the forest and other signs of spring emerging. Be ready to "look, listen, and learn" from who or what arises--and of course simply admiring the beauty of the place. Everyone is welcome, all ages, all level of "knowledge" re trees and whatnot. Wear clothing & footwear for the conditions. We may cover about mile on this walk (slowly). We'll gather at the parking spot and kiosk on Hedgehog Rd (the road to the transfer station). Lead by FCT volunteer naturalists Lucy Birkett and Stephanie Cesario.
